Fiction

Wes has written a variety of dark fantasy and sci-fi tales—such as the following. While he's regularly tinkering with personal projects, he's always open to hearing about cool tie-in or other fiction projects.

My first foray into sci-fi ventures into the world of the Eclipse Phase roleplaying game, a dark future where humanity has transcended the bonds of flesh and where what used to be humans are stranger than any aliens. My story in this anthology, “Stray Thoughts,” follows a Hawaiian detective and her sex-worker son on a missing persons case set upon the most deplorable of Venus’s various aerostat-cities. It’s a story of old hurts, belonging, and deals with the devil, with some pretty strong LGBTQ elements. I thoroughly enjoyed playing with the physical malleability of characters in this setting, virtual mindscapes, electronic ghosts, a sassy call-guy, and a relentlessly snarky mom-son detective duo. I’m also delighted to see that so many readers seem to enjoy the story’s first line: “Kindly get out of my son.”

Editor Jaym Gates and the whole crew at Posthuman Studios are easily among the 1% of the world’s most delightful people and working with them was an absolute joy. I’m just digging into the other stories in the book, and so far they’re ranging from fantastically creepy to absolute mindfucks. So I’m totally loving them!

Available from Amazon and Posthuman Studios.

My first novel, Pathfinder Tales: Bloodbound, debuts December 2015! A dark fantasy tale, Bloodbound follows the vampire hunter Larsa and her allies across Ustalav—the home of gothic horror in the Pathfinder world—on a quest to save one of history’s greatest monster hunters and preserve the truce between the living and the ancient dead.

From the description on Paizo.com:

Larsa is a dhampir—half vampire, half human. In the gritty streets and haunted peaks of Ustalav, she’s an agent for the royal spymaster, keeping peace between the capital’s secret vampire population and its huddled human masses. Meanwhile, in the cathedral of Maiden’s Choir, Jadain is a young priestess of the death goddess, in trouble with her superiors for being too soft on the living. When a noblewoman’s entire house is massacred by vampiric invaders, the unlikely pair is drawn into a deadly mystery that will reveal far more about both of them than they ever wanted to know.

You can order Pathfinder Tales: Bloodbound right now from Paizo, Amazon, and your other favorite bookstores.
